Grimoire Vocabulary — Colors
In Irish, a colour word follows the noun it describes and changes to agree with it. “A black cat” is cat dubh, but “black cats” becomes cait dhubha, with the colour both lenited and pluralised. The everyday colours are below, each with its pronunciation and source.
A couple carry more meaning than their English labels. Glas is the green of living, natural things such as grass and leaves, while uaine is a made or artificial green; and gorm, usually “blue,” is also the traditional word for the skin of Black people (daoine gorma).
