What does it mean to dream about safe?
A safe usually stands for what you guard most closely, your secrets or your security, so it helps to ask whether it was locked, open, or broken into.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read the locked strongbox as a container for the most guarded wishes and secrets, the inner treasure kept under key. A safe that will not open can mark a defence held against your own desire.
After Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (Brill trans., 1913), public domain.Jung
Jung might see the safe as the place where the self keeps its most valued or most hidden contents locked away. Knowing the combination, or failing to, can show how near you are to your own depths.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Continuity ties a safe to waking thoughts about security, secrets, and protecting what matters most. A safe that will not open often echoes a real sense of something valuable kept out of reach.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
The guarded treasure runs through myth as the hoard kept behind lock and beast, won only by the worthy and the bold. To reach the prize was always to face what stood between you and it.
