What does it mean to dream about nakedness?

Freud read dreams of being naked in public as exhibition dreams rooted in early childhood, when nakedness brought no shame, now recast as embarrassment. The dreamer feels exposed before others who, oddly, often seem not to notice.

For Jung nakedness can image authenticity and the stripping away of persona, the social mask, leaving the true self visible. It can feel like vulnerability or like honesty, depending on whether the dreamer dreads or welcomes being seen.

Cognitively being naked in public is a classic exposure dream, tracking fear of judgment, shame, or being found out, and it often surfaces around new roles or scrutiny. That bystanders ignore the nakedness frequently hints the fear is larger than the reality.

Nakedness in myth marks both shame and truth: the new shame of Adam and Eve, the naked honesty of the seer, the exposure that strips away pretense before a god. To be unclothed is to stand without defense before judgment.
