What does it mean to dream about ex-Lover?
An ex-lover often represents unfinished feelings, a lesson, or a quality from that chapter of your life rather than a literal sign that the person is returning.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read an old lover as the return of a desire or attachment that was never fully laid to rest. He would ask what present wish borrows the face of the past.

Jung might see the ex-lover as a carrier of the anima or animus, an inner figure of love still seeking integration. The dream can mark something from that relationship you have yet to own or release.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Continuity suggests an ex often surfaces when something in current life echoes that relationship, or when grief and closure are still being worked through. It rarely predicts reunion and more often points to a feeling that lingers.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
The lost beloved haunts myth, the one looked back at and slipped away, the love that the underworld would not return. The figure tends to embody longing and the hard work of letting go.
