What does it mean to dream about enemy?
An enemy often stands for a conflict, an obstacle, or a rejected part of yourself, rather than a literal foe who means you harm.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read an enemy as the bearer of feelings the dreamer cannot own, hostility turned outward onto another figure. He would ask what forbidden impulse the conflict gives a face.
After Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (Brill trans., 1913), public domain.Jung
Jung would see the enemy as the shadow, the disowned part of the self met as an adversary. Facing it in a dream can be the first step toward integrating what you have refused in yourself.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Threat-simulation theory reads an enemy as the mind rehearsing how to meet danger, conflict, or rivalry. The figure often reflects a struggle you are working through more than a person plotting against you.
Threat-simulation theory (our summary).Mythological
The adversary is essential to myth, the foe whose challenge makes the hero, the dark counterpart who must be met. The figure tends to embody the struggle that forces growth.
