What does it mean to dream about crater?
A crater often pictures the lasting mark of a past blow or eruption, a hollow left where something violent once struck, and the slow healing around it.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read a hollow torn in the ground as the trace of an old shock, a wound the surface still carries. The crater may stand for a hurt that has passed yet left its shape behind.

Jung might see the crater as the scar of an upheaval in the self, where something erupted or struck and changed the ground. What grows in the hollow now can say something about whether the wound is healing.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
The continuity view ties a crater to waking memory of an impact or loss that left a mark, or to the empty place a past event carved out. The state of the hollow often echoes how the aftermath feels.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
Mountains that smoked and burst were homes of forge-gods and prisons of giants in old myth, and the pits they left were treated as scarred and uncanny ground. Such hollows marked where the deep earth had once broken through.
