What does it mean to dream about canyon?
A canyon often pictures a deep divide or a long-cut wound in the ground, the mark of time and force, and sometimes the distance between two sides of a life.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read deep clefts in the earth as bodily symbols and as places of descent, openings that draw the eye downward. A canyon may stand for a divide you feel within or a depth you are wary of approaching.

Jung might see the canyon as a great split in the self carved slowly by experience, with depths not easily crossed. Standing at its rim can mark a moment of facing how far apart two parts of you have grown.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
The continuity view ties a canyon to waking feelings of separation, of a gap that seems hard to bridge, or of looking down into something daunting. The view from the edge usually carries the strongest clue.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
Deep gorges and chasms appear in myth as boundaries between the living world and what lies below, places where the earth opens. They were imagined as cut by old powers and crossed only with care.
