What does it mean to dream about brother?
A brother usually stands for a quality you link with him or with brotherhood, such as loyalty, competition, or a part of yourself, more than the literal man.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would look to the early sibling bond, with its mix of affection and rivalry for a parent's attention. He would read the dream as reworking some feeling that bond still carries.
After Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (Brill trans., 1913), public domain.Jung
Jung might see a brother as a near double, a figure who carries part of the dreamer's own character, sometimes the shadow. Two brothers can picture an inner pair pulling in different directions.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Continuity suggests a brother often reflects your real relationship with him, or the qualities of loyalty and rivalry you associate with him. Ask what is unresolved or valued between you.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
The brother appears throughout myth as both companion and rival, from devoted twins to the brother set against brother in the oldest stories. The figure often marks a bond strained by loyalty and ambition.
