What does it mean to dream about cactus?
A cactus often pictures endurance in hard conditions, a guarded kind of life that protects itself with spines yet still holds water and bloom within.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would note the prickly surface and ask what it kept at a distance, since defences in a dream often guard something tender. A cactus can stand for a wish to be approached set against a fear of being hurt. The spines may speak for feelings the waking self holds off.

Jung might read the cactus as the self that survives in dry seasons, protected and self-contained. Its spines guard a store of life within, suggesting strength held in reserve rather than weakness. A flowering cactus can mark unexpected growth from a hard place.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Under continuity, a cactus tends to follow waking thoughts about resilience, loneliness, or keeping people at arm's length. It may mirror a stretch when you felt you had to protect yourself and make do with little. Consider where in your life you have been weathering a dry spell.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
In desert cultures the cactus is honoured as a life-giver, offering water and fruit where little else grows. Some traditions made it a guardian plant, set at thresholds to ward off harm. So the cactus carries both the sting of defence and the gift of survival.
