What does it mean to dream about ears?
Ears tend to point to listening and what you are willing or able to hear, the messages around you and how you take them in.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud would read the ear as a receptive organ, open to what reaches it, and at times as a bodily symbol in its own right. Blocked or ringing ears can mark something the dreamer does not wish to hear.
After Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (Brill trans., 1913), public domain.Jung
Jung would see the capacity to receive inner and outer voices, the listening side of the self. Closed ears may mark a refusal to attend to what the psyche is trying to say.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
Continuity ties ears to waking concerns about being heard, hearing gossip or warning, and attending to advice. Dreams of straining to listen often follow days of feeling unheard.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
The ear is the gate of revelation in many traditions, the channel through which a god or oracle speaks. To have ears and not hear is an old image of willful blindness of the heart.
