What does it mean to dream about lizard?
A lizard often points to an older, instinctual layer of yourself, or to something cold-blooded, watchful, and quick to slip away.
Four ways to read it
Each reading below comes from a named tradition and a cited source, so you can see where it came from and decide what fits your dream.
Freud
Freud might read the lizard as a primitive drive surfacing in a still, watchful form. Its sudden darting can picture an impulse that appears and vanishes before it can be examined. He would invite your own associations to the creature.
After Freud, The Interpretation of Dreams (Brill trans., 1913), public domain.Jung
For Jung the lizard can image the ancient reptilian psyche, instinct stripped to its bare survival. Meeting it in a dream may signal contact with a deep, pre-personal part of the self.
Jungian concept (our summary).Modern
A continuity reading sees the lizard reflecting recent stillness, sun, or a sense of basking and waiting. The feeling tone often points to how watchful or detached you feel in waking life.
Continuity hypothesis (our summary).Mythological
In several myths the lizard is linked to regeneration, since some shed and regrow their tails, and to the sun it loves to bask in. Old bestiaries treated it as a creature that renews itself.
